COVC Supports COC Ensemble Studio Production

This season, the Canadian Opera Volunteer Committee (COVC) co-sponsored the COC Ensemble Studio production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.  Young singers in training performed the major roles in this comic masterpiece by one of opera’s greatest composers.

Supporting young people at the start of their professional lives is something the COVC has been doing for decades.  Since its founding in 1947 by a group of dedicated opera lovers, the COVC has awarded over 750 scholarships to young students pursuing opera studies.  COVC President Arija Stiver says the organization’s dedication to helping young people embarking on operatic careers is “ a vital and integral component of the Canadian opera scene.”

The COVC is committed to the young artists in the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio Program.  As the production co-sponsor, the COVC supported this important opportunity for young artists to build their repertoire with major roles as they prepare for international careers.  The Ensemble Studio production has seen the major role debuts of many Canadian opera stars who have returned to sing on the COC mainstage and in opera houses around the world – Canadians such as Isabel Bayrakdarian, Ben Heppner, Robert Gleadow, Joni Henson, Jessica Muirhead and Michael Colvin.
